Real Ones are another fab pop band out of Norway, and in sound they are kinda like the brother group of Euroboys---which means about four of you know of what I speak, such is the way of nerdtastic MP3 blogging. (Here's what I wrote about the Euros last August.) I was hipped to Real Ones by my friend Synne, who shares the same hometown (Bergen) as the band. She saw the group play at the recent Nattjazz festival---broad definition of jazz over in Norway---and raved about their performance. In fact, Real Ones have received great notices for their concerts, though it's not the sort of music I would usually associate with transcendent live experiences. I guess that's just the anti-rockist bias in me. If I were an anti-rockist, that is.
Real Ones play country-rock psychedelia, with a heavy emphasis on pop and, well, the banjo. You can stream the quintet's entire Home With the Girls in the Morning CD at Real One's homepage---the band's site, that is, not the media player's---and rather remarkably, you can buy the group's CDs at U.S. domestic prices from CDBaby.com.

Speaking of Bergen, Peter Beste took this great shot of Kvitrafn, former drummer of Gorgoroth, in the city.
Check out Peter's other fantastic photos of Norwegian black-metalers, U.K. grime dudes, and more at his Web site.
For the trainspotters: This post was written amid bouts of severe anxiety during the Detroit Pistons - Miami Heat game, accompanied by copious amounts of sweat because of today's withering, ass-hot heat in D.C. Now that my Pistons have won, I feel free and clear to hit the publish button. To the Miami Heat: YOU COUNT JIMMY BUFFET AMONG YOUR FAN BASE; IT'S NO WONDER YOU LOST.Posted by CP | Link |
